Over the course of 2018's early months, I spent my spare moments driving east on I-40, across our ever distant Tennessee to spend time with 79 year old Weymouth Sluss of Kingsport, TN, and his lovely wife, Sarah. Weymouth has been caning chairs by hand for the last 30 years or more. He was gracious enough to share his knowledge with me and set me on the right foot for taking up the trade. Sarah shared a few of her token recipes with me and toured me around her marvelous quilting room, where she stitches up magic in her own right.
Feel free to contact me at haseeciaccio@gmail.com if you're interested in purchasing a chair, having one re-caned, or if you'd like to swap recipes.
